With or without friends

Open world indie title Outbound is coming to PS5 at some point in the future, developer Square Glade Games has confirmed.
This one could be right up your street if you’re on the lookout for a more relaxed escapade. It’s centered around a road trip in your humble campervan, which you can customise with resources found on your travels.
You’ll also be able to build separate structures, homes, and hideouts across what looks like a reasonably big map, with up to three other players joining in online, if you wish.
Here’s the game’s alpha trailer from a few months back:
“Outbound is a ‘cozyvival’, a term our team started using after Alpha testing when we stepped back and took a look at what players found enjoyable,” explains studio co-founder Marc Volger on the PlayStation Blog.
“We found that they fell in love with the satisfying survival mechanics, like managing energy, gathering materials, and growing food, paired with the cozy, low-pressure vibe of living in the van.”
Again, the emphasis here is on establishing a stress-free adventure for yourself, and so far, Outbound certainly looks the part. Obviously, open world, survival-infused games are a dime a dozen these days, but we do think there’s an immediate charm to this one.
What do you think of Outbound? Will it be added to your watchlist? Take a step outside in the comments section below.

Robert (or Rob if you’re lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played ’em all. A little too much, some might say.
