PS5 Controller’s Removable Battery Seemingly Debunked for Now

Recent speculations indicated that Sony was set to introduce an updated edition of the DualSense controller featuring a detachable battery, but they might be mistaken – at least for the moment.

The initial speculation originated from the Polish site PPE which has disclosed some reliable details previously, but it increasingly seems like something may have been misinterpreted in this specific case.

It claimed that the new controller would be packaged with an upgraded PS5 Pro, but a breakdown of the modified system by tech vlogger Austin Evans (as first noted by Insider Gaming) verifies that’s not accurate.

Evans points out that the controller does contain a different battery inside, but it’s definitely not one that can be easily swapped out as was previously suggested.

None of this completely dismisses the rumour, naturally, as it might still be part of Sony’s intentions to launch a DualSense with a swappable battery. However, we honestly suspect they would prefer you to buy an entirely new controller at this juncture.

Regarding the PS5 Pro itself, not much is altered about the hardware in this revision. The main distinction is its weight, which is somewhat lighter than earlier versions.

Sony generally tends to enhance the manufacturing of its devices over time, so none of this is out of the ordinary.

The only genuine difference is that the platform holder has managed to reduce costs for the consumer in the past – but in this era of inflation, semiconductor shortages, and tariffs, the PS5’s different models actually cost more now than they did upon release.

And that is a dilemma that has not only impacted Sony, but all console makers. Incredible.
