Everything’s fine

Update []: After a rocky few days for the PS3’s aging PS Store, operations seem to have fully restarted, and error prompts have vanished.
Here in Europe, we’re no longer bumping into obstacles, and reports from other regions echo the same relief.
That comes as major reassurance for users who worried the outage might signal the beginning of the very last chapter for the double-last-gen system’s online service, though it’s worth keeping in mind that Sony typically gives plenty of heads-up before any planned shutdown.
All evidence points to a pesky software glitch that has since been patched, and in a generally quick fashion.
Should anything odd crop back up, we’ll keep you in the loop.
Original Story: Sony has previously attempted to shutter the PS3’s wheezing PS Store, only to be met by a tidal wave of resistance that prompted an immediate U-turn. With the hardware now nearing two decades in age, every minor hiccup sets the community on edge.
And that’s essentially what unfolded this week: the ancient machine’s storefront has been spitting out maintenance messages for roughly a full day. Delisted Games first clocked the problem, but we can vouch it’s hitting the European side too.
Sony hasn’t issued any maintenance bulletin—unsurprising given the PS3 isn’t exactly on the front burner these days.
For what it’s worth, we’re seeing zero headaches on PS Vita, and similar blackouts have cropped up—and been solved—in the past.
The venerable PS3’s labyrinthine architecture continues to give Sony engineers grief; indeed, just last month the company’s newer boxes temporarily lost purchased PS3 avatars. Could this maintenance window be tied to that fiasco? (Probably not.)
Given the incredible uproar that erupted last time a shutdown was floated, we’d be shocked if the platform holder moved to pull the plug anytime soon; odds are this is a small blip destined for a quiet fix—perhaps someone simply needs to reseat a cable or metaphorically blow the dust off a cartridge. We’ll see.
