It’s felt like an eternity since Mafia 3 split the fan base; the wait for another entry has been painfully long. So does Mafia: The Old Country bring the widely adored series back on course? That verdict is yours to deliver.
The Old Country flaunts a far more straightforward, narrative-driven journey compared to Lincoln Clay’s open-world previous chapter. Positioned as a trip back to the franchise’s origins, this prequel unrolls before World War I in turn-of-the-century Sicily.
Critical reception was largely warm, with reviewers applauding the cinematic presentation and strong performances throughout its tale. Yet some scolded the game for archaic control schemes and a formulaic layout.
Our assessment stated, “Mafia: The Old Country lacks sufficient gameplay ingenuity to sustain its compact runtime,” in the full Mafia: The Old Country PS5 review.
We capped things off by branding it “a brilliantly acted gangster drama one might appreciate in the moment yet promptly forget once the finale fades.” Final tally: a middling 6/10.
If you do pick it up, we’ve compiled an exhaustive Mafia: The Old Country guide to help you hunt down every hidden collectible.
So it’s a lukewarm comeback for the brand — still, don’t let that color your opinion. As ever, cast your personal score in the poll tethered to this post, then tell us your reasoning down in the comments.
