Episode Aigis appears to be a success

Persona 3 Reload DLC Sales

Persona 3 Reload received considerable criticism last year when Atlus launched paid DLC for the remake — content that numerous fans contended ought to have been part of the revival from the start. However, such critiques often lose their weight when facing the reality of revenue.

Based on statements made during SEGA’s latest investors call (as reported by Persona Central), it appears Reload’s DLC offerings actually generated significant revenue for the company.

“DLC sales for Persona 3 Reload were considerable,” stated the publisher, in response to an inquiry regarding expectations for upcoming projects.

It’s important to acknowledge that Reload received various DLC bundles along with the contentious Episode Aigis expansion. It might be that SEGA is alluding to the title’s complete set of additional content, although it did specifically refer to the third quarter of the previous year — with Episode Aigis having launched in September.

Episode Aigis was, in fact, a reimagining of the epilogue from Persona 3 FES on the PS2. Initially, there was a significant uproar regarding the necessity of paying for such a supplement, since Reload — at least to some extent — was intended to be a definitive version of Persona 3 from the outset.

This backlash evidently didn’t significantly affect SEGA’s figures, however.

Naturally, this realization brings to light potential worries regarding the rumored Persona 4 remake. Would SEGA and Atlus market another epilogue — the one introduced in Persona 4 Golden — as DLC following the base game’s launch? Well, if there’s profit to be made…

Did you anticipate Episode Aigis to achieve “considerable” sales? Acknowledge that this type of DLC exists for a purpose in the comments below.
