Bandai Namco has dropped the opening cinematic for Once Upon a Katamari, and it’s a happy jolt of how lighthearted and imaginative the franchise can be.
This first fresh installment in ages sends you on a time-hopping romp where you scoop up relics from various eras and fashion them into shimmering stars.
The introductory clip relays that very concept in the franchise’s trademark bubbly, jaunty style—and it’s an utter treat:
Keita Takahashi, the original mastermind, isn’t steering the project, yet the game still appears to capture that unmistakable vibe we love.
The core mechanics might not feel as groundbreaking now, but nothing else out there plays quite like Katamari, so we’re thrilled to see it back in action.
Launching on PS5 24th October, it’s just around the corner.
