Nothing unexpected

Like we noted earlier this week, half a dozen of the ten best-selling PS5 releases during the second quarter of 2025 were distributed by Microsoft.
The outlier is Forza Horizon 5 – which has shifted a huge number of units on Sony’s platform – while the other five chart-toppers trace back to Bethesda or Activision, legacy multiplatform studios gobbled up by the Washington giant in deals totalling close to $80 billion.
So it’s hardly shocking that the colossal games arm of Microsoft is thriving on PS5 – and both sides appear pleased with the outcome.
In today’s earnings briefing – during which the trillion-dollar behemoth confirmed Xbox hardware revenues slid 22% compared with last year – CEO Satya Nadella again declared that his outfit remains Sony’s top-selling publisher.
Frankly, don’t expect that narrative to flip anytime soon. Before the year is out the publisher will unleash Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Gears of War Reloaded, both forecast to fly off the PS5 shelves. Further ahead lie Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2.
Additionally, rumblings persist that yet more conversions are on deck for Sony’s console, with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Killer Instinct, and a raft of others said to be incoming.
