It appears that Sony studio Insomniac will be developing Marvel titles for numerous more years.

During a discussion with Game Informer, Marvel Games general manager Haluk Mentes referred to the Burbank-based team as “cherished friends”, implying that their partnership will endure well past next year’s Marvel’s Wolverine.

He elaborated when questioned about his approach in guiding Marvel Games:

“We actively pursue partners who are willing to share the same vision. As is often the case, once we complete a project collaboratively, they, too, become ‘Marvel’. Marvel’s Wolverine with our cherished colleagues at Insomniac Games embodies this ideology. We have collaborated for over a decade, establishing such a shorthand across various Marvel’s Spider-Man titles that when the moment finally arrived to reintroduce Logan in spectacular and intense style, it was clear to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the ideal choice. It was our shared culture and principles that unified us, and we are incredibly proud to keep collaborating for many years ahead.”

Insomniac has not revealed any initiatives beyond Marvel’s Wolverine, though a spin-off Marvel’s Venom title has been speculated, alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

Illegally acquired documents that surfaced during the Insomniac leak also mentioned a Marvel’s X-Men game in the distant future, though it is entirely feasible that these plans may have altered by now.

Regardless, it appears that Insomniac will remain devoted to producing Marvel games for the foreseeable future, and this does make economic sense – after all, the Marvel’s Spider-Man series ranks among the top-selling PlayStation games ever.
