Update []: A minor update from Dealabs stemming from further research validates that the new ‘Cross-Buy’ symbol is, in fact, authentic and was integrated as recently as June 2025.

This is significant as it demonstrates it’s not outdated code linked to, for instance, the PS3 and PS Vita – but rather a new element that Sony is devising.

It also identified the ‘Cross-Buy’ label in CSS documents, implying something is indeed occurring.

Precisely what the label will be utilized for remains conjecture, but it’s probable we’ll receive an announcement from PlayStation in the near future.

Original Story: A puzzling new cross-buy symbol has been discovered through data mining on the PS5.

The icon – found on the console itself – was initially shared by Amethxst on X (or Twitter), who suggests it has been incorporated since March 2025.

While other icons found by the user are already operational – such as for the Power Saver setting – the ‘Cross-Buy’ and ‘PS5/PC’ logos have not been seen until now. They align with Sony’s overall aesthetic, thus appearing authentic.

It remains unclear how Sony plans to implement these symbols, but our best inference is that it aims to enable cross-buy between PS5 and PC acquisitions, somewhat akin to Xbox’s ‘Play Anywhere’ approach.

Whether this indicates the Japanese corporation is also devising its own PC-centric version of the PS Store is yet to be determined, although persuading users to stray from Steam could prove challenging. Perhaps the allure of cross-buy will accomplish that.

Other conjectures regarding the ‘Cross-Buy’ icon relate to Sony’s rumored handheld device, but we have always assumed this would merely be a portable version capable of running supported games you already own, so we’re uncertain why it would require a ‘Cross-Buy’ designation.

It’s equally plausible that the company might introduce the ‘Cross-Buy’ icon to existing titles that can be acquired across both PS5 and PS4, simply to clarify that you receive both editions. This scenario would likely be the least thrilling outcome overall, and it’s noteworthy that the symbol is not currently present on the PS4.

Regardless, this is an intriguing finding, as this symbol certainly appears to be a legitimate part of the PS5 – and we can’t envision Sony would include it without intention to utilize it.
