Persona 4 Revival

As anticipated, Atlus isn’t entirely prepared to discuss Persona 4 Revival with much depth at this point — but that hasn’t deterred series producer Kazuhisa Wada from sharing insights about the team’s approach to such an endeavor.

In a recent interview with the Japanese publication 4Gamer (as translated by Persona Central), the interviewer prompts Wada to say something regarding Revival. After all, we have only been presented with one very short teaser so far.

Granted, Wada does not reveal much, but his response indicates that Revival will be quite akin to Persona 3 Reload in terms of scale.

He elaborates: “Persona 4 already featured a wealth of content in Persona 4 Golden, so when it comes to producing the subsequent “R,” it’s not merely about adding extra — we must craft an experience that’s delightful in a novel and distinct manner.”

Indeed, Reload did not aim to transform the original Persona 3. Ultimately, it was an exceptionally faithful remake concerning narrative and structure, but simultaneously, it felt like a fresh game. We believe that’s what Wada is implying here.

That said, it seems there will be one major distinction between the two remakes. Reload was based on the original PS2 edition of Persona 3 — not the enhanced FES version. Instead, Episode Aigis — which encompassed the content of FES — was introduced as paid DLC.

Conversely, it’s presumed that Revival will be utilizing the expanded Persona 4 Golden as its foundation rather than the initial Persona 4. Wada clearly suggests this in the quote above, but the announcement trailer for Revival also featured a music track specifically from Golden.

Wada continues: “To be frank, it’s a daunting task. But it’s progressing well!”

As for when we might actually catch another glimpse of Revival… well, we may be in for quite a wait. Publisher SEGA does not anticipate the remake to debut until at least the fiscal year 2027.

And on that note, don’t even consider bringing up Persona 6 in the comments section below.

Robert Ramsey

Robert (or Rob if you’re in a hurry) is an assistant editor at Push Square, and has been a PlayStation enthusiast since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the astonishing realm of video games. He still approaches his fighting games earnestly, but RPGs are his genuine passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played all of them. Perhaps a little too much, some might argue.
