Renegades certainly appears impressive, to be honest

It’s well-known that Destiny 2 has encountered some rather challenging times.

Turbulence within the organization’s leadership, a declining player base, and poor choices have resulted in Sony intervening to assert its dominance over the $3 billion developer.

The Japanese corporation recently remarked during a financial briefing that it would incur an “impairment loss” on the studio following its underperformance.

However, Bungie will be optimistic that the new Destiny 2 expansion Renegades, set to release on December 2nd, will slightly improve its circumstances.

This is a unique entity: it’s drawn from Star Wars, but it’s not explicitly part of the Lucasfilm universe. Essentially, the developer is crafting original lore that resembles something from a galaxy far, far away, while also maintaining its distinct identity.

To be fair, while we know how simple it can be to criticize Bungie, we genuinely appreciate some of the artistic decisions here. There’s stunning artwork displayed in the above behind-the-scenes documentary, and we believe the developer has effectively captured that Star Wars essence without sacrificing the elements that make Destiny 2 distinctive.

Will it have the necessary impact? Well, at least on the PS Store, pre-orders are quite robust for the add-on, only trailing behind Resident Evil Requiem, Reanimal, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and 007 First Light. That’s fairly commendable.

Whether it’s sufficient to revitalize the troubled studio’s fortunes, though, remains uncertain.
