Gotta gacha ‘em all

That sound you can hear is Nintendo’s legal team tightening its collective belts.
It’s going to take a whole lot more muscle to go head-to-head with Chinese titan HoYoverse than Palworld maker Pocket Pair, however.
The company has announced a third game in the Honkai franchise, which looks from the trailer like a Pokémon-inspired take on existing entries Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail.
While the trailer doesn’t really reveal much at all, we see existing characters Kiana (Honkai Impact 3rd) and Blade (Honkai: Star Rail) appearing to summon pet creatures for combat.
HoYoverse recently trademarked the name Honkai: Nexus Anima around the world, and appears to be sitting on a website domain and social media accounts for the same name.
We’ll need to wait for more information, of course, but this does very much look like HoYoverse’s take on Pokémon to us. It’ll be interesting to see whether it’s going to be another pillar for the busy developer alongside Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, or more of a spin-off.
If this is being teased now, we’d expect more information later this year.
Also, considering HoYoverse’s popularity on PlayStation – and the lack of a true Pokémon rival on Sony’s consoles – expect it to eventually launch on PS5, alongside PC, mobile, and various other platforms.
