Outlook

It’s reasonable to assert that the Switch 2 announcement didn’t unfold the way Nintendo envisioned.
Although we confidently anticipate the console will be immensely successful, it has become the center of negative attention for several reasons, including its software costs, Game Key cartridges, and the premium Welcome Tour tutorial.
However, the unexpected release date announcement for Ghost of Yotei last week triggered a new wave of discontent directed at Nintendo, particularly regarding its Mario Kart World launch title, which comes with a staggering price of $79.99 in the US.
While it was always improbable that Sony would alter its pricing model so swiftly, they announced that Sucker Punch’s sequel will retail for $69.99, which is standard for prominent PS5 exclusives. An optional Deluxe Edition, which includes some extra DLC, will also be offered for $79.99.
Many believe this highlights Nintendo’s pricing approach, as they suggest Ghost of Yotei likely required more financial investment from Sony compared to Mario Kart World, given its cinematic emphasis and superior graphics.
It’s important to note, for the sake of fairness, that a game requiring a higher production budget doesn’t guarantee it will deliver more enjoyment. In this case, Ghost of Yotei and Mario Kart World are poles apart. Nevertheless, we understand the concern.
While it’s promising to see Sucker Punch’s latest underprice Nintendo’s offering, we’re not fully convinced this pricing strategy will endure.
All attention will be on GTA 6 and the success of Nintendo’s own titles; should other developers follow suit and sales remain robust, we could certainly foresee Sony considering that $79.99 price range as well.
