They really went there

SEGA’s not messing around with its marketing for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
This new 30-second advertisement actually references a classic SEGA Genesis commercial, where the company – at its most abrasive – directly compared its own console to the Super Nintendo.
This clip is a little less confrontational, praising rival Mario Kart World at first. But it does end with an amusing taunt: “What if you could warp across different dimensions? Fully customise and build out your machine? And compete head-to-head across different platforms? Or, er, what if you want to roam around on the open road?”
This is an obvious prod at the Nintendo racer’s new open world mode, which some people enjoy but others have criticised for being a bit basic and boring.
Obviously, the market is a lot different in 2025 to the 16-bit era, and SEGA will see Nintendo as a key partner these days.
We still enjoy the light ribbing in the commercial, though – it’s all good fun.
