Free Mafia PS5 Update Adds Open World Mode, Gear, and Challenges Tomorrow
First-person driving, Photo Mode included

Hangar 13 has unveiled its earlier promised Free Ride update for Mafia: The Old Country, which will finally launch on PS5 tomorrow, 20th November 2025. This brand-new mode opens up the map for exploration and fills it with additional activities and rewards. Discover all the details in the trailer above.
Free Ride functions independently from the main storyline of Mafia: The Old Country and allows you to “revisit the world in a more self-directed manner”. While exploring Sicili, you will encounter horse races, car competitions, and challenges that test your combat and stealth abilities.
You can earn the Dinari in-game currency by completing challenges, which can be used to acquire new rewards such as outfits, vehicles, charms, weapons, and more. New locations will also be added to the world map for your discovery, along with some concealed secrets that the developer isn’t revealing in its PlayStation Blog post.

“We aim for players to navigate the world in a more unrestricted manner, and Free Ride transforms it into an expansive hub where you can encounter and engage in various Challenges by traveling around, unlocking Hitching Posts, and connecting with contacts,” explained content manager Peter Amato. “Challenges are individually stationed and accessed via these contacts, and doing so will place you in a combat scenario or unique world state.”
Tomorrow’s update also enhances the base game with first-person driving and a Photo Mode, and it presents a new way to experience the narrative through Cinema Siciliano mode. This feature transforms the game into “a true piece of classic Italian cinema. The visual treatment is breathtaking, making it feel like you’re watching a black-and-white film shot on an old-fashioned sound stage, while the vintage-sounding audio seamlessly ties everything together”.
Free Ride is further complemented by a Classic difficulty mode, which raises the challenge even more. All items earned in Free Ride will transfer into the main campaign, granting you access to new weapons and customization items that you wouldn’t have otherwise obtained at that point.
The update aims to broaden and enhance a PS5 title that publisher 2K considers a success. “What we suspected was verified, which is simply… if you provide consumers with an exceptional narrative experience that’s enjoyable, somewhat contained, and priced fairly, then you could achieve the ideal outcome,” stated CEO Strauss Zelnick earlier this month.
Moreover, if you’re a PS Plus Premium holder, you can experience Mafia: The Old Country as part of your subscription through a Game Trial starting Friday, 21st November. This will allow you to sample the initial hours of the game.
