“It’s truly up to him”

The Game Awards 2025 has already shattered records, as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 receives the distinction of being the most-nominated title in the event’s history.
Included in the 12 nominations spanning various categories is one for Charlie Cox, the performer who contributed his voice to Gustave, a crucial and fan-favorite figure in the RPG.
During a panel discussion, it appears Cox is thankful for the acknowledgment, yet is quick to redirect the praise to another.
He expresses he’s “excited” about the nomination for Best Performance at the Game Awards, but emphasizes that his vocal contribution to Gustave is merely part of what animated the character.
“There’s an incredible French performer named Maxence Cazorla, who executed nearly all the motion capture for that role in that game,” Cox states. “Any nomination, or any recognition I receive, I truly must attribute to him, because I believe the portrayal of that character is really attributed to him, with my voice being just a fraction of that.”

Maxence Cazorla is responsible for the motion capture not only for Gustave but also for Verso and Renoir, and in addition, he provided the voice for Esquie.
Here’s a segment showcasing Cazorla’s motion capture efforts:
It’s heartening to witness Cox acknowledge the contribution that went into Gustave’s physical depiction and animation alongside the voice, as no character could be as cherished without all elements functioning in unison.
The Game Awards are scheduled to occur in a few weeks, where Expedition 33 is expected to (likely) take home several accolades.
