$20, $50, and $70 increases for Xbox consoles
- by Liam Croft

More expensive than it was at the launch, the price of a PS5 has been heavily affected by the current climate and tariffs imposed by the USA government. It now costs $550 for a base unit with a disc drive, but hey, it could be worse — what if it was $650?
That’s apparently the new price of an Xbox Series X|S, according to Windows Central, which has shared cost increases across the full range of Xbox Series X|S systems. Here is what the prices of Xbox Series X|S consoles are going up to, with a $70 increase being the biggest:
Console | Previous Price | New Price | Increase |
---|---|---|---|
Xbox Series S 512GB | $379.99 | $399.99 | +$20 |
Xbox Series S 1TB | $429.99 | $449.99 | +$20 |
Xbox Series X (w/ disc drive) | $599.99 | $649.99 | +$50 |
Xbox Series X (digital version) | $549.99 | $599.99 | +$50 |
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition | $729.99 | $799.99 | +$70 |
This now means an Xbox Series X is $100 more expensive than a base PS5, and the lower-powered Xbox Series S is only $50 cheaper than a digital base PS5. These price increases reportedly go into effect from 3rd October.
The PS5 Pro won’t even be the most expensive console on the market anymore, as the absurd 2TB Galaxy Black version of the Xbox Series X will be $799.99. That’s $50 more expensive than a PS5 Pro, and will be a less powerful system.
On the latest round of price increases, a Microsoft source told Windows Central the following:
We are navigating an incredibly dynamic environment right now. We’ve assessed the changing macroeconomic environment and addressed the applicable impacts.
It’s similar verbiage to Sony’s own statements surrounding console price increases, as it said in August it’s navigating a “challenging economic environment” when it raised the costs of all PS5 models in the USA.

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he’s found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.
