Anticipate additional sequels and expansions

The publisher, Devolver Digital, is set to concentrate more on the growth of its established franchises while simultaneously working on new game titles, as disclosed in slides presented to investors.
Posted by mauronl on Bluesky are several graphics illustrating the company’s top revenue-generating games, and a notable trend indicating that gamers are increasingly opting for familiar series over unfamiliar, new offerings.
Cult of the Lamb stands as Devolver’s top seller, with total earnings exceeding $90 million. It is succeeded by Astroneer, which has surpassed $80 million in revenue.
Once again, the key insight for Devolver is that many of its top earners are well-established intellectual properties, and players are “investing more time” in these known entities rather than in new titles.
Cult of the Lamb was a fresh IP at its debut in 2022, but it has since undergone numerous updates and received many DLCs and expansions, significantly extending its longevity beyond the initial launch period.
Astroneer has also thrived from robust post-launch support, and a spin-off, Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, is set to release in 2026.
The second slide circulating on social media indicates player counts and sales figures for three Devolver titles — GORN (over 1.5 million copies sold), Astroneer (over 13 million players), and the Gungeon series (exceeding 5 million copies sold).
Given the success of each title, they are all slated to receive sequels or follow-ups.
It appears that Devolver Digital is set to place greater emphasis on fostering recurring franchises through sequels or further expanding its existing games with post-launch content.
However, the publisher continues to be committed to delivering innovative games to the market, with titles like Baby Steps, Skate Story, and Possessors already in development.
