Nice shot?

Classic Sony Series Everybody's Golf Sells Best on Switch in Japan 1

Considering the sheer popularity of the Nintendo Switch in its native Japan, it was always going to prove an uphill battle for the PS5 version of legendary Sony series Everybody’s Golf to outperform it.

And now we have physical sales data available, we can see that the newest entry Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots has sold best on the Mario maker’s machine.

Famitsu pegs the first week numbers at 35,139 units on Switch and 16,075 units on PS5.

This is a large drop-off from the previous entry on PS4, which sold over 100k units in its first week at retail. However, it’s worth noting that digital accounts for a much larger share of the market now than it did when that title deployed in 2017, and this latest version hasn’t been made by series stalwart Clap-Hanz.

In fact, this edition doesn’t involve Sony at all, as it’s licensed the franchise out to Bandai Namco, something it’s been doing more and more of recently. Freedom Wars and Patapon were also recently licensed out to the Japanese publisher, despite PlayStation retaining IP ownership.

To be honest, we don’t think the new Everybody’s Golf is all that. While it certainly looks and sounds like the classic series, bugs and bad gameplay decisions make it arguably the worst entry in the long-running series to date.

Its ironic, then, that Clap-Hanz’s newest game, Easy Come Easy Golf, isn’t even available on PlayStation platforms as we write this. And it just added a 60fps option which runs beautifully on Switch 2.
