Atomfall Sequel in Talks After ‘Immediately Profitable’ Launch, Says Rebellion

Rebellion, the developer behind this year’s cult hit game Atomfall, has described the title’s success as “immediately profitable”, according to The Game Business.

The game released back in March and was met with a great critical reception as well as the studio’s biggest ever launch.

While part of this success can be attributed to its inclusion on Game Pass, Rebellion’s comment suggests it’s sold well in the more traditional sense too.

And, as mentioned towards the end of the video interview above, Atomfall’s “massive success” has led to internal discussions about what’s next.

“What do we do in the future with Atomfall?” ponders Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley. “We’ve got DLC coming up… What do we do about sequels? Do we do spin-offs?”

He continues, saying the company needs to maintain a balance between “sequels and new original things”, acknowledging that the new game joins the ranks of Sniper Elite and Zombie Army as one of the studio’s biggest brands.

“At the end of the day, we want to make good content that entertains people, and that keeps them coming back for more,” Kingsley says. “If somebody buys one of our games, I want them to go ‘that was worthwhile, I wonder what else they’ve got in their library I can also play?’ Because that means you’ve kept them happy.”

A sequel to Atomfall feels like a certainty in some ways, given how well the original game has performed — especially relative to Sniper Elite, which itsels has spawned many sequels and spin-offs.
