Rebellion, the studio responsible for this year’s cult phenomenon Atomfall, has characterized the title’s achievement as “instantly lucrative”, per The Game Business.

The game launched in March and received an excellent critical evaluation alongside the studio’s largest debut ever.

While part of this achievement can be ascribed to its availability on Game Pass, Rebellion’s observation indicates it has sold effectively in a more conventional manner as well.

Moreover, as noted towards the conclusion of the video interview above, Atomfall’s “considerable success” has prompted internal dialogues regarding future directions.

“What should we pursue in the future with Atomfall?” contemplates Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley. “We’ve got DLC on the horizon… What should our approach be for sequels? Should we consider spin-offs?”

He further articulates that the company must strike a balance between “sequels and fresh original creations”, recognizing that this new title joins the ranks of Sniper Elite and Zombie Army as some of the studio’s top franchises.

“Ultimately, we aim to generate quality content that engages audiences and keeps them returning for more,” Kingsley expresses. “If someone acquires one of our games, I want them to think ‘that was valuable, I wonder what else is available in their library for me to enjoy?’ Because that indicates you’ve satisfied them.”

A sequel to Atomfall seems like a certainty in some respects, given the original game’s successful performance — particularly in comparison to Sniper Elite, which has itself produced numerous sequels and spin-offs.
