Existing on the brink

We’ve been aware for some time that a new Cyberpunk 2077 anime is under development, but now we possess additional details: it will serve as a sequel to the remarkable Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – and indeed, Japanese animation studio Studio Trigger is once more leading the project.
“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is currently in development,” a statement on X (also known as Twitter) states. “It offers a new independent 10-episode narrative from the Cyberpunk 2077 universe – a raw tale of redemption and vengeance. When the world is obscured by spectacle, what lengths must you traverse to make your narrative significant?”
The announcement is complemented by some exceptional new artwork from Ichigo Kanno, which we’ve included above.
Although a release date has not been disclosed, anticipation is that the show will premiere on Netflix, similar to the original.
The inaugural season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a remarkable accomplishment, illustrating a hyperviolent narrative with exquisite artwork and animation.
In fact, the series was so impactful that collaborations featuring characters like Lucy have been verified for multiple other media, such as Guilty Gear Strive and Wuthering Waves.
