The hunt for Kratos has already kicked into gear

Amazon doesn’t have much time left to lock in its Kratos, since cameras on the God of War television version are expected to roll in March 2026.

That nugget arrives from “insiders” who chatted with television-and-comics outlet Nexus Point News; they say the main shoot will begin in Vancouver twelve months from now.

Ronald D. Moore—best known for Battlestar Galactica—will serve as showrunner, flanked by a writers’ bench featuring Matthew Graham (Electric Dreams), Stephanie Shannon (For All Mankind), Narendra K. Shankar (The Expanse), Joe Menosky (For All Mankind), Marc D. Bernardin (The Continental), and Tania Lotia (The Witcher).

In a mid-year IGN interview, Moore reported that the “show’s development is progressing smoothly” and added that he was “blown away […] by the scale and richness of the lore packed into this title.”

He likewise revealed that the narrative will draw from the 2018 edition of God of War, zeroing in on Norse legends and Kratos’ trek with his boy Atreus to lay his deceased wife’s ashes to rest.

Word is that auditions are moving briskly, with production poised to launch roughly half a year away.

It’ll be riveting to discover which performer secures the part of Kratos; the Spartan’s towering frame and physique render him almost mythic in size, and earlier real-world portrayals have veered into amateur-cosplay territory.

On that note, watching how Amazon allocates funds for this saga should prove equally intriguing. While the newer God of War titles weave intimate, grounded beats into their stories, the property still feels monumentally pricey to translate, if only because of the mountain of digital effects required to honor its spectacle.
