Beer we go
- by Sammy Barker

Those of you who purchase specially marked packages of Sapporo Beer in the United States over the next few weeks will be rewarded with an additional item for protagonist Atsu in Ghost of Yotei.
As part of a pretty appropriate partnership, Sony has paid to brand all boxes of the beer with the game. Sapporo is in Japan’s northern Hokkaido region, where Sucker Punch’s new title takes place.

The in-game reward, named ‘The Charm of Hokkyokusei’, features Sapporo’s globally recognised star logo.
Hokkyokusei translates roughly to North Star, which is a reference to how the company’s original brewmaster was said to have followed the North Star to Germany, where he learned how to make beer.

“Sapporo’s original brewmaster and the hero in Ghost of Yotei both experience defiance, discovery, and artistry to re-write their fates,” Sapporo big-wig Zach Keeling said.
“These are inspirational stories that connect us to Japan and its remarkable history. We aim to share those stories and bring fans closer to Japan through this partnership.”
Sucker Punch is said to have knocked back plenty of Sapporo Beer while on its reconnaissance mission to Hokkaido, back when it started researching the game.
If you do ever find yourself in Sapporo, we do recommend the Sapporo Beer Museum – it’s free to visit and is pretty interesting. Plus, you can conclude your trip with a delicious trio of samplers spanning Sapporo’s flavours over the years.
