PlayStation 2: The Unbeatable Legacy Surpassing 160 Million in Sales
Initially introduced in 2000, the PS2 continues to be the highest-selling gaming console of all time.
The PlayStation 2 has achieved sales of 160 million units globally, maintaining its position as the top-selling console ever.
Sony has updated its PlayStation history page on its website to highlight this achievement.
Launched in March 2000, the console reached a significant sales milestone in 2011 when it surpassed 150 million units sold.
In comparison, Sony’s next highest selling console is the PlayStation 4, which recorded 117 million units sold as of May 2023.
According to its recent financial report, Sony has sold 65 million PlayStation 5 consoles since its release in November 2020.
When viewed alongside other consoles, the Nintendo Switch has achieved sales of 146 million units since its 2017 release, as noted in Nintendo’s latest financial report.
Nonetheless, the Nintendo DS remains the company’s top hardware with 154 million units sold.
