Playgama Secures $3 Million to Launch a Global HTML5 Platform Ecosystem
Game technology platform Playgama recently secured $3 million in financing, which it plans to invest in a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) ecosystem dedicated to HTML5 games.
Primarily backed by entities The Open Platform and s16vc, the firm aims to capitalize on HTML5’s “revival” in the gaming sector. In the press release dated December 3, it detailed its strategy for the PaaS ecosystem, which will include a cohesive SDK to facilitate publishing across multiple platforms, a QA tool that integrates these platforms’ requirements into a comprehensive list, as well as resources for monetization, marketing, and payment processing.
Playgama highlighted how the HTML5 gaming landscape consists of “numerous independent playgrounds,” in contrast to the more unified storefronts for Epic Games on PC and iOS or Google Play on mobile devices. This “fragmented” market implies that “leaders capture only minute portions of the global web gaming audience. […] Currently, there is no method for developers to access the entire market simultaneously, and [we] intend to alter this.”
“Our aim is to simplify distribution via a ‘master key’ strategy, offering developers a straightforward and effective pathway to connect with all available platforms, languages, and markets, thereby maximizing their opportunities to engage a broad and diverse audience,” stated Playgama. Its PaaS ecosystem will build on its open-source Bridge SDK, which it claims streamlines game integration across various platforms and is currently compatible with Unity, Godot, and other game engines.
“We aspire to revolutionize the web gaming industry and empower HTML5 game developers to easily reach audiences they previously could only imagine,” remarked CEO Dmitry Kachmar. “With this investment, we’ll expedite further enhancements of Playgama’s platform for developers, broaden our toolkit, and introduce advanced analytics and financial technology solutions.”
