Kinetic Games’ Phasmophobia has achieved sales of 1 million copies just a month after its launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The indie horror sensation debuted on consoles at the end of October as an Early Access title. That same month, Kinetic announced that the game had sold over 20 million copies across consoles and PC since its initial Early Access release on Windows in 2020.

In a statement shared with Gematsu, Kinetic revealed that Phasmophobia has sold nearly 22 million copies across PC and consoles. CEO Daneil Knight described the milestone as an “extraordinary accomplishment [only made] possible thanks to our amazing, supportive, and engaged community. The entire team at Kinetic Games couldn’t be happier, and reaching this milestone is the best Christmas gift we could have hoped for.”

2024’s major horror victories

2024 has been a remarkable year for horror games in terms of sales. Konami and Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake, which also launched in October, sold over 1 million copies within its first week. More recently, GSC Game World’s survival horror title Stalker 2 achieved the same milestone in just two days following its late November release.

On the indie front, Landfall Games’ Content Warning sold 2.2 million copies and attracted 8.8 million players just two months after its April launch. After experiencing significant success as a free-to-play game for an entire day, it sold over 1 million copies within two weeks.
