Palestinian Game Developer Surpasses $50,000 Funding Goal in Remarkable Crowdfunding Campaign

Palestinian game creator Rasheed Abueideh has successfully concluded his crowdfunding campaign for a pseudo-3D stealth adventure influenced by a historical Palestinian folk narrative, surpassing the unique funding target by nearly $50,000.

Abueideh launched the crowdfund for Dreams on a Pillow on Open Proper after “enduring a decade of rejections and neglect from funding allies and publishers who viewed supporting a Palestinian as ‘too risky’ or ‘controversial.’

“The team has sought publisher financing and cultural grants for the endeavor, but has been continually turned down,” explains the Crowdfund page.

“One publisher responded favorably to funding requests, an organization experienced in handling game topics that are sensitive – but unfortunately, for them, the risks associated with a Palestinian narrative were too significant.”
