Nintendo Is Delaying Switch 2 Pre-Orders In Canada

Nintendo of Canada has revealed that it will not begin pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the nation, just one day before they were scheduled to go live.

In a statement provided to Mobile Syrup, Nintendo of Canada explained that pre-orders are being postponed “to align with the pre-order timeline that will be established in the U.S.” The console is still intended for release on June 5, 2025, consistent with worldwide plans.

To remind you, U.S. pre-orders were delayed last week due to “potential tariff implications” following the Trump Administration’s significant tariffs on countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia.

Here is the full announcement:

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, to synchronize with the schedule of pre-orders that will be initiated in the U.S. Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The release date of June 5, 2025, remains the same.”

This news is quite unexpected. We did ask last week about Canadian pre-orders after reaching out to Nintendo of America, but only received information regarding U.S. pre-orders. While this is understandable, announcing the delay just a day ahead is somewhat surprising.

What we can affirm is the situation remains uncertain in the Western markets. Although the President of Nintendo of America told reporters that tariffs did not affect the console’s pricing, he did admit that the recent tariffs require “attention.”
