Switch on track to become the quickest-selling console, even with
The research firm DFC Intelligence has lowered its expectations for Switch 2 sales amid ongoing uncertainties stemming from the tariffs enacted by The Trump Administration.
As noted by VGC, DFC previously predicted that Switch 2 sales would top an impressive 17 million by the end of 2025; however, this estimate has since been revised down to 15 million. Still, this number remains quite significant, and DFC believes that the Switch 2 might become the fastest-selling console ever.
On the contrary, they caution that should Nintendo decide to hike the device’s price in the U.S. due to the tariffs—something many anticipate might be unavoidable—a substantial number of potential customers may opt to hold off until the market stabilizes:
“Given the tariffs and unpredictability of pricing, Nintendo may decide to scale down its production. If manufacturing costs rise significantly due to tariffs, many prospective buyers typically postpone their purchases until prices decrease. This landscape is dynamic and will be closely tracked as DFC provides updates throughout the year.”
Recently, Nintendo has delayed pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the U.S. while evaluating “the possible repercussions of tariffs and shifting market conditions.” Though the release date of June 5, 2025 remains intact, the likelihood of a price increase cannot be discounted at this time.
Additionally, pre-orders have also been postponed in Canada, although Nintendo clarified that the reason is solely to “align the timing of pre-orders with those set for the U.S.”
