According to a separate specification sheet for Switch 2, Nintendo’s next console will feature a Lithium-ion battery, boasting a capacity of 5220 mAh. Its battery life is estimated to be “Approx. 2 – 6.5 hours”. Nintendo emphasizes that this is merely an “estimate” and mentions that “the battery life will depend on the games being played and usage conditions”.

Although Nintendo has not offered specifics about the games being referenced, it is logical to assume that playing a less demanding indie title on a pleasant spring afternoon with a gentle breeze will result in the console lasting longer in handheld mode compared to an intense battle in Elden Ring during a heatwave of 40°C.

Charging time for the console is approximately three hours while in sleep mode.

To compare the anticipated Switch 2’s battery life with other Switch devices, here’s what Nintendo’s support page states:

Once fully charged, the battery duration for the console varies depending on the model and the software preferences being utilized.

  • For Nintendo Switch – OLED Model with a serial number that starts with “XT”, the battery life is around 4.5 to 9 hours.
  • For Nintendo Switch consoles with a serial number that starts with “XK”, the battery life is also around 4.5 to 9 hours.
  • For Nintendo Switch consoles with a serial number starting with “XA”, the battery life is about 2.5 to 6.5 hours.
  • For Nintendo Switch Lite, the battery life is between 3 to 7 hours.
