Resolution taken to “prevent unauthorized use” of international credit cards and PayPal accounts

Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store in Japan will stop accepting payments from global credit cards and PayPal accounts starting on March 25, 2025.

In a statement published on its support page, the determination was made to “prevent unauthorized use.”

“For customers who have previously used foreign-issued credit cards or PayPal accounts created abroad, we request that you utilize alternative payment methods, such as credit cards issued in Japan, moving forward,” it noted.

Additionally, as reported by VGC, customers located outside of Japan can purchase games from the Japanese eShop that are no longer available in their respective countries. The pricing often varies due to exchange rates, making some titles more affordable.
