The day prior to their launch

Nintendo of Canada has announced that it will not be commencing pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the country, just the day before pre-orders were set to go live.
In a statement provided to Mobile Syrup, Nintendo of Canada elaborated that pre-orders are being delayed “to synchronize with the pre-order schedule to be established in the U.S.” The console, similar to the rest of the world, is still slated for release on June 5, 2025.
As a reminder, U.S. pre-orders were postponed last week due to “potential tariff repercussions” following the Trump Administration’s steep tariffs on nations like Vietnam and Cambodia.
Here is the complete statement:
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, in order to synchronize with the timing of pre-orders that will be established in the U.S. Nintendo will share updated information at a later time. The release date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.”
This comes as quite a surprise. We did inquire last week regarding Canadian pre-orders after contacting Nintendo of America, but were only advised about U.S. pre-orders. It is understandable, but announcing the delay just a day before they were to go live is a bit unexpected.
All we can state with certainty is that the conditions are unpredictable in the Western markets. While the President of Nintendo of America informed reporters that tariffs had not influenced the console’s pricing, he did acknowledge that the recent tariffs need to be “addressed.”
