Nintendo Dismisses Switch 2 Speculation as Marketing Lead Offers Insight on Future Plans
The Nintendo Switch 2 rumors, whether accurate or not, have been steadily increasing in recent days. The speculation surrounding the gaming giant’s next major hybrid console is at an all-time peak as mock-ups have flooded the internet and tech event CES 2025 – although not without one accessory manufacturer distancing itself and clarifying that its own mock-ups were based on online leaks. However, a former Nintendo marketing executive speculates that the company might not allow online chatter to interfere with its strategy.
The former director of social media marketing at Nintendo of America, Kit Ellis – also one half of the hugely popular yet now-defunct YouTube series Nintendo Minute – shared his perspectives on the current developments in a recent Patreon video.
“One thing we always emphasize is Nintendo’s commitment to a long-term vision rather than temporary opportunities. If they were to change their announcement date for the Switch [2], that would mean they are reacting to something immediate,” Ellis explained. “A pertinent question is whether what’s happening now will impact the next seven years of the Switch 2, or however long this generation lasts. And honestly, I think it won’t.”
“Currently, it may not be the best time for them; it’s a challenging period, and they aren’t pleased with the situation. However, once they make their announcement, showcase games, and get the ball rolling, this moment will soon be just a blip in the past,” he continued, adding that “the most critical aspect” is that no Switch 2 games have been leaked thus far. Yet, Nintendo does not need to be overly concerned with this since its first-party games “aren’t being sent to a factory in China.”
Regardless, we may not have to wait much longer to see what the console truly resembles. Ellis mentions that Nintendo might aim to avoid the U.S. President’s Inauguration scheduled for next week, but aside from that major event, there are ample opportunities this month for them to officially unveil details about their new console.
