Nintendo Accelerates Plans to Launch New Console Following Leak of Swap 2 Diagrams

Nintendo appears to be closely monitoring the latest leaks regarding the Switch 2 plans and is likely preparing to reveal its highly anticipated new console as soon as possible, according to an industry analyst.

We have had a good understanding of what the Switch 2 might look like for some time—particularly since a prototype console shell and internal components came to light online in late September. However, recent weeks have seen additional images emerge, this time shared by accessory manufacturers who are already taking pre-orders for Switch 2 accessories, which provide better insights into Nintendo’s upcoming console design.

In summary, it is now widely believed that the Switch 2 will simply resemble a somewhat larger version of the Switch 1, now featuring magnetic Joy-Con attachments and an additional button below the Home button on the Joy-Con.

So, when can we expect Nintendo to finally reveal the Switch 2? In early November, industry analyst Serkan Toto, CEO of the Japanese gaming consultancy firm Kantan Games, informed Eurogamer that the company has run out of time to launch its successor in 2024.

Nintendo has set a deadline of March 31, 2025 to showcase its new console. However, given the recent leaks and declining sales of the Switch 1, Toto suggested to Eurogamer today that the company is unlikely to wait that long.

“Nintendo will have limited time in January, so an announcement early in the month might be logical,” Toto stated. “You can assume that Nintendo is aware of the widespread leaks and is uncomfortable with them, although some may turn out to be inaccurate.

“It is really becoming quite severe with these leaks, and they could push Nintendo to disclose information sooner than originally intended.”

The Switch 2 is broadly anticipated to arrive in late 2025, and while Nintendo has not yet hinted at a specific timeline, we don’t have much longer to wait for news and updates.
