Nier Series Celebrates 15 Years with Exciting Tournament, Fans Anticipate a Sequel to Nier Automata

Square Enix is commemorating 15 years of philosophical dilemmas and captivating androids with a special Nier anniversary livestream, featuring appearances from several series veterans, and some fans are hopeful that we will finally hear about a Nier Automata sequel making its debut.

The Nier series’ 15th anniversary event will be streamed live on April 19 at 6pm JST, 9am GMT, and 1am PST – available to watch on YouTube. Square Enix has announced that the event will include updates about forthcoming events and merchandise, a mini live performance showcasing the series’ best musical pieces, and a conversation involving developers. Producer Yosuke Saito, composer Keiichi Okabe, game designer Takahisa Taura, and director Yoko Taro are all confirmed attendees.

Needless to say, there’s no indication of a new game announcement, but that hasn’t deterred fans from bringing out their copium nonetheless, especially since Square Enix unexpectedly released Nier Replicant during the series’ tenth anniversary celebration.

2021’s Nier Replicant was the latest installment in the beloved action RPG series – itself an offshoot of the Drakengard series – blending over-the-top combat with deeply meaningful narratives. Replicant was a remaster-remake of the original Nier game, leaving us without a mainline continuation of the series since the worldwide phenomenon of Nier Automata eight years ago.

Nier Automata has since sold over 9 million copies, and 2B’s iconic design has recently helped Square Enix’s merchandise sales reach new heights. (Hopefully another $2,600 2B statue won’t appear at the event – my wallet can’t handle it.)
