There are plenty of options to explore this Christmas!
Things have calmed down with the Xbox Game Pass updates and recent Xbox launches in the past few weeks, but there’s a whole array of free treats that are definitely worth trying out this Christmas!
Let’s start with the “free” new video games. Besides the EA giveaways that will continue until December 26th, we’ve also seen new additions in the free-to-play category such as UFL (a new soccer game), Marvel Rivals, Maximum Football and several new modes in Fortnite! Here’s a list of what we’ve encountered:
- UFL (December 5th)
- EA Sports FC 25 Showcase (December 5th)
- Marvel Rivals (December 6th)
- Fortnite OG (December 6th)
- Fortnite Ballistic (December 6th)
- LEGO Fortnite Brick Life (December 6th)
- Maximum Football (December 6th)
- Seal: What The Fun (December 20th)
Regarding free demos, we’ve previously mentioned the remarkable Xbox Winter Demo Fest event, which runs until the end of 2024. Since then, new demos have also been added for Slitterhead, Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream and the upcoming Bandai Namco release of Fantasian Neo Dimension, all of which are worth trying out!
- Fantasian Neo Dimension Demo (December 16th)
- Slitterhead Demo (December 20th)
- Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream Demo (December 20th)
In terms of free trials, Amazon’s New World: Aeternum RPG offers a four-hour trial for everyone on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, with progress transferring to the main game (which is part of the Xbox Countdown Sale 2024).
Finally, we wanted to highlight another free trial for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and EA Play members, which is for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Anyone subscribed to these services can try out five hours of the game free of charge, and don’t forget the full version is also a part of the Xbox Countdown Sale 2024!

- Dragon Age: The Veilguard Free Trial (December 11th)
We continually see free content appearing on the Xbox Store every week, so it’s always worth checking to see if anything new has surfaced! There’s more than enough here to keep us engaged until 2025 arrives…
