Myst developer Cyan Worlds has laid off half of its staff
Myst and Riven creator Cyan Worlds has terminated 12 employees after facing challenges in “troubled waters.”
The studio announced the information on social platforms and indicated that the layoffs affected nearly half of its workforce.
“Market conditions have compelled us into a difficult situation where we must consider the future of our studio alongside the monthly realities of game development in 2025,” states a statement released by Cyan leadership.
“Over the past year, we have been remarkably open with the entire Cyan team regarding the uncertain waters we are navigating, as well as the risks that lie ahead. While the news of job losses wasn’t unexpected, it is (and remains) profoundly heartbreaking for all of us.”
Cyan mentioned that it has endeavored to “soften the blow” for those affected by providing severance packages, but urged other studios with open positions to consider hiring its displaced employees.
The studio is presently focused on securing funding for its upcoming project.
“We have been around for a considerable time and have faced numerous challenges before. Our genuine hope is to continue operating and to offer the unique experiences that only Cyan can provide.”
