MyGames Divests Hypercasual Games Publisher Mamboo
Dutch publisher MyGames has provided Mamboo Leisure with a reduction to its founding team following its acquisition of the studio three years ago. In a statement, MyGames elaborated that they and Mamboo had “divergent focuses of our businesses” and decided to part ways.
MyGames CEO Elena Grigorian mentioned that the sale will assist the company concentrate on the mid-core market and reinforce its dedication to “innovation and development” in that area.
“Collaborating with Mamboo has been a meaningful experience,” continued Grigorian. “We believe they have significant potential in their niche and wish the team success in their future projects.”
According to a report from Mamboo’s founding team, the company delivered “solid” annual revenue growth and a large number of daily players under MyGames’ ownership. The studio now aims to focus on creating skill-based games after previously working on freemium titles. They assert that this strategy will allow them to become a “top-five player” in that market within the next three years.
MyGames acquired Mamboo for over $2 million in 2021 after purchasing a minor stake in the company the previous year. The goal was to strengthen its position in the hypercasual gaming market. At that time, the Abu Dhabi-based studio’s Shift Race had attracted 15 million players in just three months. Another one of its titles, Billion Builders, was also among China’s most-downloaded iOS games.
Looking ahead, Grigorian stated that MyGames will “remain focused on creating mid-core games that engage millions, lead their genres, and encourage long-term interaction with players.” Regarding Mamboo, she hopes the sale will allow it to “continue progressing towards their objectives and empower their teams to realize their full potential.”
