Monster Hunter Wilds 2d beta is currently in progress, but gamers are encountering a familiar and occasionally amusing glitch reminiscent of the initial beta testing phase.

During the first beta launch for Capcom‘s epic monster-hunting, fast-paced crafting sensation, players faced a multitude of technical challenges, ranging from frame rate issues and lag to a graphics glitch that transformed some of the game’s typically stunning characters into disturbing, polygonal shapes that would even terrify N64 NPCs. Ironically, some monsters were also impacted, morphing into massive, nondescript blobs.

Now, that troublesome glitch has emerged once more. It shouldn’t be overly shocking, however. Even back then, Capcom acknowledged that the beta version was outdated and claimed the current game was “already in a more advanced state.” Since then, the developers have continued to work on known issues, although the author had already clarified that such fixes wouldn’t be present in the second beta as the team had been focused on Monster Hunter Wilds’ final release, scheduled for just a few weeks from now.

Still, I can’t help but feel a bit amused that the infamous glitch has returned, as just take a look at some of the screenshots below. How many high-budget games look like that anymore!? It’s both charming and grotesque, and the cherry on top is how hilariously grumpy the Palicos appear.

It’s not just players and our feline friends undergoing these bizarre transformations; the glitch is also affecting the titular monsters. The one pictured below resembles some ominous entity, and I genuinely hope Capcom eventually introduces a post-launch foe with a similar design as a form of tribute.

If the peculiar graphics are truly bothering you, don’t stress too much. Capcom’s updates will be included in Monster Hunter Wilds’ commercial launch, arriving on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 28.
