Monster Hunter Wilds has proven to be a remarkable triumph for publisher Capcom, although not everyone is pleased on PC, where the game has repeatedly faced criticism for its poor performance. Finally, however, a month subsequent to its launch, Capcom has disclosed that an initial batch of performance-related PC enhancements will be arriving later this week.

Capcom conveyed the information in a detailed message from Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda on the official Monster Hunter website. After expressing gratitude to players for their support amid Wilds’ impressive milestone of 10 million sales, Tokuda began outlining some of the improvements the developer is focusing on in response to player feedback.

The significant update, particularly for PC users, is the commitment to enhanced game stability. “The team is actively identifying stability issues and implementing improvements whenever feasible,” Tokuda stated, “especially concerning the Steam version. This will be a continuous effort, where we will strive to make steady progress in this area and address critical concerns.”

The good news is that Capcom’s first set of performance-related PC improvements is set to arrive quite soon – as part of Monster Hunter Wilds’ Title Update 1 this Thursday, April 3rd. This will include a promised reduction in VRAM usage, as well as an upgrade to the DirectStorage version on Steam – both of which “should lead to an overall enhancement in stability for our PC players,” according to Capcom.

Importantly, VRAM usage and DirectStorage issues were both emphasized in Digital Foundry’s analysis of Monster Hunter Wilds on PC, in which Alex Battaglia detailed the game’s “serious performance issues” and “notable” technical challenges. At that time, Alex advised “caution” for high-end GPU owners, while clearly suggesting that anyone with lower-tier graphics cards “avoid” Wilds until Capcom could enhance the situation – so hopefully this week’s update will bring significant improvements prior to promised “ongoing enhancements” in upcoming patches.

Beyond PC performance, Tokuda highlighted other areas the team is focusing on. There is discussion of weapon balance adjustments, for instance, which may be implemented “slowly” with each new title update. Regarding quality-of-life improvements, Capcom states it is currently considering making it easier for players to access the information they need through UI/UX enhancements, along with “additional adjustments… to further elevate the overall experience of the game to create a smoother gameplay environment.”

Capcom indicates that players can expect modifications aimed at simplifying item restocking, reviewing skill information, participating in multiplayer quests, and utilizing the Seikret. Furthermore, improved camera behavior during hunts may also be on the developer’s agenda. More broadly,
