“Monster Hunter Wilds: Capcom’s Record-Breaking Sales Phenomenon”
Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved over 8 million sales in just three days, establishing a new record for Capcom as its fastest-selling title.
The game was released last Friday, February 28th, and on its launch day, it reached a concurrent player count on Steam of over a million within the first day. It later peaked again over the weekend at 1.38 million players, driving the platform to a record high of over 40 million players online.
These 8 million sales span across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Capcom attributes the soaring sales to the expansive world of the game, its presence in global events (like PlayStation’s State of Play and The Game Awards), and conducting several online beta tests.
“Capcom is dedicated to meeting the expectations of all players by utilizing its industry-leading game development skills to provide highly enjoyable gameplay experiences,” the company stated, likely referencing the poor technical performance of the game.
A patch for the game was released earlier this morning, aimed at fixing a progress-blocking bug and more.
Capcom ranks its best-selling titles, known as Platinum Titles, with Monster Hunter Worlds leading at 21.3 million units sold (as of December last year). This is followed by Monster Hunter Rise with 16.7 million and Resident Evil 2 remake with 15 million.
Could Monster Hunter Wilds surpass its predecessor? At the very least, it has reaffirmed that Monster Hunter is Capcom’s most profitable franchise.
