Monster Hunter Wilds Achieves 8 Million Sales in Record-Breaking Opening Weekend
In just three days following its launch, Monster Hunter Wilds sold 8 million units, Capcom has reported.
The latest title in the cooperative action series debuted on February 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. According to the developer, this is the quickest-selling game in the company’s history.
So far, the game has generated “immense enthusiasm” from both critics and players. On its inaugural day, the PC variant boasted 1.3 million simultaneous users on Steam, significantly outpacing Capcom’s previous launches on that platform.
For context, 2018’s Monster Hunter: World sold 5 million copies within three days of its release, while 2021’s Monster Hunter Rise achieved sales of 4 million copies. Rise capitalized on World’s success and was further bolstered by its initial release on the Nintendo Switch. Up to now, World and Rise have collectively sold over 25 million copies and 15 million copies, making them the two highest-grossing installments in the franchise.
Since the launch of 2023’s Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4 remake, Capcom’s major releases have started strong and continue to perform well. In its latest third-quarter financial report for the fiscal year, it was clear that Wilds’ performance would compensate for any shortfalls during that quarter.
On social media, Capcom expressed gratitude towards gamers for Monster Hunter Wilds’ sales, describing it as “just the beginning for the next era of the series, and we eagerly anticipate moving forward with you.”
