As of September 2023, Minecraft has altered its primary update strategy to two annual “game drops” that introduce new mobs, blocks, and items to the game. With the latest Minecraft Live event, we now know the details of 2025’s initial game drop, Spring Into Existence. Prepare for a plethora of animal variants and some truly exciting new plants being introduced.
Kicking off with plants, players are receiving something they’ve been desiring for quite some time. After being hinted at several years ago, firefly bushes are making their way into the game. These bushes will flourish in swampy biomes and near water, providing the glimmering lights of fireflies to brighten up the night. Furthermore, according to Mojang, you can possibly place the bushes, which are plant blocks, beneath various blocks to make your creations sparkle.
Other plant-based additions include:
- Leaf litter
- Falling leaves
- Dry grass
- Cactus plants
- Bushes
In what might be the best part of Minecraft, the variety of animal companions you’ve gathered along the way is set to expand significantly. Pigs, cows, and chickens will each receive two new variants: cold and hot. The new variants will be found in cold and warm biomes, respectively. This means you may discover a warm variant cow in the desert, while the snowy plains biome will host the cold version. So, if you’re attempting to catalog every creature wandering around in Minecraft to create some sort of expansive zoo, you may have your work cut out for you.
