With the A Minecraft Movie set to premiere on April 4, it comes as no surprise that the game it is based on is featuring a lot of content tied to the release. Minecraft is introducing downloadable content from the film, a live event, and even a complimentary skins pack so you can resemble the characters from the movie.
The live event immerses you in a unique Minecraft realm that showcases Midport Village, where you collaborate with the film’s characters, complete missions, and earn exclusive loot for use within the game. The event includes voiceovers from Jack Black, who plays Steve in the film, and allows users to team up with characters portrayed by Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen to engage in a series of minigames. The mode also features multiplayer play, so you won’t have to face the challenges alone. Should you manage to finish all five games in this mode, you can unlock a special item, the Yearn cape.
The event, which was originally announced during Minecraft Live, is set to launch on March 25 at 3 PM PT/6 PM ET and will continue until April 7 at the same time.
Alongside the live event, there will be a plethora of complimentary downloadable items ready for you in the game on March 25. At the outset, a variety of skins based on the movie’s heroes will be available for download, allowing you to customize your character as Jack Black’s version of Steve or as the characters portrayed by Momoa, Myers, Brooks, and Hansen. And yes, that means you can wear the stylish red jacket—complete with fringe—that Jason Momoa sports in the movie’s trailers. Of course, it will be a more pixelated version. This is, after all, Minecraft.
Lastly, a DLC world will be available for those who wish to delve deeper into the action of the film. It will be free on the Marketplace, just like the skins, and includes activities such as elytra races, night survival challenges, and tasks that involve sneaking into a woodland mansion. The DLC can also be played solo or with friends.
The live action A Minecraft Movie debuts in theaters on April 4. Additionally, an exciting series is in the works, announced last year by Netflix. This series currently has no set release date.
