Meta’s Quest Educated Headset Discontinued: What’s Next for VR Education?
Meta commenced the discontinuation of its Quest Educated system in September.
Meta’s Quest Educated headset is no longer available.
Initially reported by RoadtoVR, the Quest Educated webpage explicitly mentions that “Meta Quest Pro is no longer in stock,” encouraging consumers to “explore Meta Quest 3 for the ultimate mixed reality experience and superior comfort.”
The headset, which was initially targeted towards professional users and VR enthusiasts, was launched in October 2022 at a price of $1,500. It featured 256 GB of storage, and the Educated’s optical lenses were 40% lighter with higher-resolution displays compared to the Meta Quest 2.
Additionally, it included facial and eye tracking capabilities, which the company believed would enhance social interaction in applications by allowing avatars to reflect users’ emotions.
However, the headset failed to gain popularity, prompting an announcement in September from Meta informing gamers that it would phase out the Quest 2, Quest Educated, and the 128GB variant of its Quest 3.
