Metallic Eden feels like admire sci-fi Cyberpunk Doom Eternal, and I am already sold on that pitch alone
Metallic Eden, the forthcoming sci-fi FPS from Deep Silver and the team behind the 2017 indie sensation The Ruiner, has just debuted an impressive new trailer at the Future Games Show. As a fan of fast-paced shooters, I already find myself quite enamored with this title. From the instant the main character soared through the air to strike a robotic drone in half, brandishing a hefty machine gun with the other hand, I knew this was going to be a game for me.
The concept for Metallic Eden resembles a more science-fiction-esque cyberpunk take on the high-octane FPS action that the recent Doom titles have been pioneering. However, instead of the hellish demons, we face the minions of Skynet, featuring flying turrets, massive robots, and corporate soldiers in armored suits all firing back at us.
Unleash your hyperpower, declares the voiceover at one point. If that means leaving a trail of bullet casings, blood splatter, and destruction in my wake, then I’m more than ready to unleash in that manner, Metallic Eden. There’s also a hint of Ghostrunner in the mix, showcasing wall-running, mobility, and enhanced player agility. All good elements, with no critiques here. After all, the only thing better than shooting an evil robot is taking it down while performing a jet-boosted vault over its head.
Currently, the narrative seems to center around playing as a combat android navigating a bionic metropolis to protect the citizens from… something? I’m not entirely clear on the storyline just yet, but I suppose that will be clarified when Metallic Eden launches on May 6, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
