Mass Effect 5 Teases Return of Classic Morality System: Fans Discover Compelling Evidence of Renegade/Paragon Choices
BioWare enthusiasts are speculating that the upcoming Mass Effect will reintroduce the beloved series’ morality system, allowing players to choose between Paragon (good-ish) and Renegade (bad-ish) decisions in the gameplay.
This theory stems from a possibly overlooked detail found in one of the promotional posters for the upcoming game, as well as a recent remark made by BioWare producer and Mass Effect 5 project director Michael Gamble.
BioWare first disclosed a poster featuring our enigmatic protagonist’s silhouette on N7 Day in 2023. However, as you can see in the embedded post below, keen-eyed fans have deduced that the Paragon and Renegade logos from Mass Effect could potentially be layered onto this image. Adding fuel to the fire are Gamble’s remarks from a few days ago, which appear to have reignited speculation.

“It’s true that more players chose Paragon,” he tweeted. “However, it would have meant nothing if Renegade hadn’t existed. The power to choose outweighs the number of players selecting any option.” It would be surprising if he didn’t carry that philosophy into the game he is currently leading.
The original Mass Effect trilogy approached morality in a distinctly different manner than the studio’s other major franchise, Dragon Age, by presenting clearer-cut ‘good’ and ‘bad’ choices. Engaging in or stating something slightly morally questionable—like confronting a dishonest journalist—would earn you Renegade points, while more compassionate dialogue choices would grant you Paragon points.
