In 2019, Fatal Fury’s Mai Shiranui was one of the most sought-after fighters for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. She was omitted from the game because “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is intended for wonderful boys and girls of various ages,” according to Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai. However, Mai is on her way to Street Fighter 6 early next year, and she stars in a new teaser trailer that showcases her fighting style.
Amusingly, Mai refers to herself as “a good girl” in the video while teaching an inexperienced fighter some combat tactics at her Fatal Fury 2 location. It isn’t long before their training session is disrupted by some low-level ninjas who are out to capture Mai for unknown reasons. Unfortunately for them, they chose the wrong girl to mess with, as she skillfully takes them down with ease.
Mai actually made an appearance as a guest character in the zombie survival mobile game Doomsday: Last Survivors earlier this year; however, Street Fighter 6 will mark her first encounter with the Capcom characters since SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos in 2003. Mai’s fellow Fatal Fury hero, Terry Bogard, was added to Street Fighter 6 earlier this year.
Terry and Mai will also reunite in Fatal Fury: Metropolis Of The Wolves, the first sequel in the series to release in the last 25 years. In addition to the traditional fighting game matches, Metropolis of the Wolves will also feature a solo-player RPG mode when it launches on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on April 25, 2025.
