The 1999 masterpiece makes a comeback

Nightdive Studios has produced various reimagined retro releases throughout the Switch era, and another one that you are likely anticipating is System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster.
During the ‘Future Games Showcase: Spring’ today, it was confirmed that this “sci-fi horror action RPG” will be arriving on Nintendo Switch along with two additional platforms on June 26, 2025. This remastered version, based on the 1999 original, is “rebuilt” for modern platforms using Nightdive’s proprietary KEX Engine.
It promises to deliver enhanced visuals, refined gameplay, improved performance, cross-play cooperative multiplayer, mod support, and much more. Pre-orders are already available on select platforms (with Switch pre-orders to follow), and we have also received a brief PR description along with several screenshots:
“Set 42 years after the incidents of the first System Shock, villain SHODAN and her horde of ruthless mutants have taken over the starship Von Braun. Players take on the role of a soldier who awakens from cryo-sleep with cybernetic implants integrated into his body. As he embarks on a quest to uncover the terrifying secrets of the abandoned starship, he must enhance his upgradable skills and wield powerful weapons and extraordinary psionic abilities to survive SHODAN’s monstrous creations—while resisting her egotistical god complex.”
It’s worth mentioning that Nightdive’s remake of the 1994 original System Shock never launched on Nintendo platforms, so hopefully something will change this time.
