This action RPG already looks like a thrilling adventure thanks to its vibrant mobile graphics aesthetic and intense anime style, but now it’s poised to rekindle the excitement of three-dimensional visuals at the 2025 Odyssey exhibitions.
In an official announcement, Samsung has disclosed its collaboration with The First Berserker: Khaza’s developer Nexon Korea and Neople, the team behind Dungeon Fighter Online. This partnership will adeptly customize the forthcoming RPG’s graphics specifically for the Odyssey 3D display revealed during CES 2025. Rather than just utilizing post-processing effects or adding enhancements post-launch, the trio has worked collaboratively on the “design of characters, environments, and cutscenes” to align with the display’s capabilities.
Ultimately, the objective here is to effectively bring 3D gaming back into the spotlight. Samsung clearly aims for its Odyssey screen to be the centerpiece, and while it faces competitors like Acer striving for a similar position with the Predator SpatialLabs Explore 27, the South Korean tech giant is set on ensuring there are truly captivating games for players to enjoy on its display.

And indeed, The First Berserker: Khazan is undoubtedly one that could entice me back into the realm of glasses-free 3D gaming. The RPG carries a hint of Soulslike elements, and its challenging nature leads me to believe there’s a significant amount of enjoyment to be found with three-dimensional chaos. However, I think the concept of a game being genuinely crafted with 3D visuals in mind may be the most critical factor here, as it could lead to conscious decisions that support the medium’s renaissance.
Should you purchase the Samsung Odyssey 3D?
Honestly, I must admit, I was quite skeptical when I initially learned about the Samsung Odyssey 3D. Keep in mind that I’ve experienced two significant phases of 3D gaming throughout my life, starting with the Sega Master System’s unique optional goggles, and the latter concluding with the Nintendo 3DS and televisions utilizing active battery-operated glasses. Let’s just say that after thoroughly playing Ocarina of Time 3D multiple times and investing too many hours in Shadow of the Colossus on PS3, I’ve earned the right to be a bit grumpy about 3D technology.
However, I’m truly struggling to find any negativity regarding the Samsung Odyssey 3D and Nexon’s The First Berserker: Khazan enhancements. Maybe I’m just falling for marketing, but I genuinely believe that if a developer really commits to creating 3D effects, the end result should be quite impressive. The glasses-free display has a fantastic opportunity to excel here, similar to how the 3DS did back in 2011, but this time, the results will promise a peaceful experience.
With that price point in mind, it’s crucial not to let the excitement of 3D allure overshadow the importance of specifications. Fortunately, the Odyssey 3D features a 4K 165Hz display with a 1ms GtG response time, so it should provide your Steam library with excellent UHD visuals. However, it will utilize an LFD (light field display) panel instead of the elegant OLED technology used in other Samsung models, and that will likely affect colors and contrast.
As for whether you’ll be able to purchase the Samsung Odyssey 3D upon its release this year, I’d say it depends on how much of a trendsetter you’re willing to be. If you’re excited about being at the forefront of the third wave of 3D gaming and eager to dive into The First Berserker: Khazan, investing in the monitor could be worthwhile. Just keep in mind that until I manage to experience the RPG on the monitor with my own eyes, I can’t say for sure if you’ll be pleased with your eventual purchase, and jumping into (re)emerging technology always carries some risks.
